Old rodan and gotoku for Japanese tea room, heavy item made with beautiful craftmanship from the Meiji period (1868-1912). The rodan is placed in the cut out hole of the tea room. Inside the rodan, the gotoku stand is placed (shown upside down in our photos) in ash for kama or kettle.

A fine old Japanese ‘Kaishi ire’ (a tissue holder for tea ceremony) in the style of wallet; the exterior is embroidered with roundels of bamboo with plum on the front. There is a Minogame long haired turtle, and cranes with pine branches for feathers on the other side. ‘Sho-chiku-bai’ is the combination of pine, bamboo and plum as the symbolic trio for happy occasions in Japan. Kozutsu (koh-zutsu) is a stick incense container used for Japanese "Sencha" tea ceremony. The pine tree is carved on bamboo with exceptionally artistic quality. The tips (end pieces) of the tube are made from red sandalwood. Signed "Chikusou" with a gourd emblem. It is 10 3/4 inches long. No damages. Circa, Meiji period (1868-1912)
